Life at Harvard Yard : Amelia Lin

Amelia Lin is anything but your traditional student. Lin came to research as a NanoExplorer during her sophmore year at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science. Her research consisted of investigating properties of carbon nanotubes using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) under the direction of Dr. Ray Baughman. Lin's experience as a NanoExplorer helped pave her way to her final research project on encapsulation of carbon nanotubes during her senior year of high school, which went on to place in several national science competitions.

Lin, of Plano, Texas is no stranger to achievements. She was named a Presidential Scholar, a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar, a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Scholar, and has a long list of awards and scholarships due to her dedication and hard work in the sciences.

Now as an undergraduate student at Harvard University, Lin is a physics concentrator and credits her passion in physics to her time as a NanoExplorer. She aspires for a teaching and a research career and is a member of several organizations at Harvard. Lin is an accomplished clarinet player in the Harvard University Band, volunteers at the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter, and is currently pursuing a summer research internship position.
